History of the Mosque

The Mosque of Al-Khadr was built in the 13th century AD, during the Mamluk period. The mosque was built on the site of a former Crusader church.

The Crusaders destroyed the mosque in the 13th century, but the Mamluks rebuilt it in the 14th century. The mosque has been renovated several times over the centuries, but the basic structure remains unchanged.
