The Jaffa, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Tel Aviv.
The former School of the Sisterhood of St Joseph and the 19th-century French hospital is today one of the best hotels in Tel Aviv-Jaffa. In spite of the slightly remote location from downtown Tel Aviv; it’s worth it! The British designer John Pawson combining forces with Israeli studio Ramy Gill Architects and Urban Designers made it a fabulous luxury hotel! Probably one of the best hotels in Israel! So don’t think about it much visit their website and book it!
In the historic buildings, Pawson preserved the historic details and juxtaposed them with modern furnishings. Restored elements include stucco, stained glass windows, and stonework that dates back to the 12th century. For dining options, the hotel contains Italian restaurant Don Camillo and Jewish deli Golda’s Delicatessen. Both are located in the basement of the 19th-century building and feature original vaulted ceilings.
The Drisco – Jaffa’s First Luxury Hotel Comes to Life!
Another hotel that is for sure one of the best hotels in Israel today is the Drisco Hotel Tel Aviv. The Hotel was the first-ever luxury hotel outside of old Jaffa. It operated between the years 1870 and 1940 and had 57 rooms. It is located in the historic American Colony that soon became known also as the German Colony. Moreover, the hotel is an important landmark in the development of Jaffa in the second half of the 19th century by being the first hotel outside of Jaffa’s city walls.
Later the Hotel in 1869 was then owned and operated by Ernst David Hardegg, son of Georg David Hardegg. It flourished and served both pilgrims and dignitaries who came to visit Palestine. Mark Twain was a guest during his time as well as Thomas Cook who reached a special arrangement with the hotel to house his guests and clients.
Following a huge investment and over a decade of intensive work led by architect and interior designer Ari Shaltiel, the hotel re-opened its doors in early 2018, presenting a unique blend of old-world elegance and modern, luxury comforts. No doubt is one of the best hotels in Israel.
The Drisco Hotel Tel Aviv was named so in tribute to the Drisco brothers, who arrived on the shores of Jaffa over a century and a half ago, sharing a dream which never quite came to fruition.
