Rimon Winery

Wineries in Israel

Rimon Winery is the only producer of pomegranate wine in the world, and it’s well worth a visit! Founded in 2004 by father and son Gaby and Avi Nachmias, Rimon Winery uses pomegranates from the orchards of Kerem Ben Zimra to produce around 720,000 bottles per year with over a dozen varieties.

Rimon Winery

Aptly named after the Hebrew word for pomegranate, Rimon Winery has won numerous awards for its unique wine. Including the bronze medal for best fruit wine and best wine at the New York’s Finger Lakes wine competition in 2007 and gold for the best fruit dessert wine at Puerto Rico’s Curibe Vinos 2006 competition. In addition, Rimon Winery debuted at the London International Wine Fair in 2008 and expanded into the United Kingdom.

Rimon Winery: Wine Production

Third-generation farmers at Kerem Ben Zimra, a Moshav in the Upper Galilee, Gaby and Avi Nachmias developed a new strain of pomegranates that was more profound in color, sweeter in taste, and richer in antioxidants and vitamins than other varieties.

The high fruit content in pomegranates is similar to that of grapes and makes this fruit ideal for making wine, and the process is the same – the wine is made by crushing the fruit – skin, seeds, and pulp, fermenting the liquid in stainless steel drums, and then aged in French oak barrels.

Gaby and Avi Nachmias used their new varietal of pomegranate to produce 2,000 bottles of pomegranate dessert wine in 2003, and Rimon Winery was established the following year with a commercial production line. The wine produced at Rimon Winery is both kosher and vegan.

Visit the Winery

The winery is based in the Dalton Industrial Park in Upper Galilee and offers a variety of tasting and wine tours and a wine workshop. Three tasting tours include an introduction to the winery, its history, the wine production process, and the health benefits of pomegranate. You can taste between four and six different wines and pair the wines with chocolate and cheese.

If you want an in-depth look at the world of wine, you can join a wine workshop presented by a professional wine guide from the winery, which covers the basic concepts of wine-making, how to taste wine, and pairing with boutique cheeses.

So the winery sells a range of pomegranate and grape wines from the North Lake region. There is also an excellent range of pomegranate products, including pomegranate oil, juice, pomegranate-based body products, chocolates, and gift packs.
